We have an incredible prize for you – a pair of VIP passes to attend our full programme of events!
Circus City – Bristol’s biennial circus festival – is back from October 17th to November 2nd with 15 shows from all over the globe: from suggestive satire to social comment (with juggling); activism to audacious aerial acrobatics; and organic acoustics to risky ropework.
THIS YEAR’S HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:
Bromance (Oct 31 – Nov 2, 1532 Theatre)
“A jaw-droppingly magnificent show…” ★★★★★ (The Stage)
Bromance is an audacious and internationally award-winning circus show that’s festooned with five star reviews – an exhilarating tour-de-force of physical heroics, where handshakes become handstands and backslaps become backflips. This unforgettable experience explores what it’s like to be a male today and how these expectations can affect competitiveness, power, fun and friendships. Find out more.
This Time (Oct 24 + 25, Unit 15)
“Beautifully human” The Times ★★★★★
A show about time, age and the stories we tell ourselves from the award-winning circus theatre company Ockham’s Razor. With a cast ranging from 13 to 60 years old, This Time combines circus, autobiographical storytelling and original equipment to create compelling visual theatre. Find out more.
Ballantine Scale (Oct 17 to 19, Unit 15)
A world premiere from Finland! Escape the chaos outside and enter a mysterious world in an enormous shape-shifting tent by the sea. This strong, graceful performance combines Ilona Jäntti’s innovative aerial acrobatics with Aino Venna’s dream-like and organic musical score. Find out more.
Hive City Legacy (Oct 18 + 19, Circomedia)
‘Hive City Legacy pollinates the seeds of revolution… explosive and invigorating’ ★★★★ The Stage
Hive City Legacy is an explosive concoction of beatboxing, aerial acrobatics, spoken word and body-popping dance in a cabaret style show that will uplift, boundary break and celebrate. Find out more.
Contra (Oct 18th + 19th, Arnolfini)
“Uncompromising full-frontal circus…Slyly funny and totally owned by performer Laura Murphy” Lyn Gardner
Following a rave run at Edinburgh Fringe, where the show was shortlisted for a Total Theatre Award, we’re delighted to welcome Contra back to Bristol. Drawing from circus, stand-up comedy and live art, Contra is a solo-cabaret of contradictions. Expect scenes of nudity, aerial acrobatics, verbal explosions and explicit references to mythical reptiles. Find out more.
